Government
Sophomore Year
Standard 2.2: The student leader contributes to the creation of rules, regulations, agreements, and contracts for student-led activities. In our class meetings we were having trouble with people being distracted and not contributing to meetings so we decided to establish a set of class meeting rules that we all helped write that we should follow during every class meeting. We had a group discussion where everyone suggested ideas as to rules should obey during meetings. Everyone at least suggested 3 rules that we should add and we made a paper with our established rules and we all reviewed and signed it. Some of these rules include no phones in meetings, no airpods, no other distractions, constant attention, everyone should talk and that everyone should be an active and respectful listener. Standard 3.4: A student leader participates in an interview process. During the process of applying for leadership, one must go through an interview held by current and former ASB members, Our activities director, an Assistant Principal and other staff members. For this interview I had to prepare well and wear nice clothing and during the interview I had to stay very articulate and poised with myself and my words. Junior Year Standard 3.3 The student leader practices positive marketing and campaigning. In BSA we attend this weeklong camp called camp chawanakee where they have an award called the pioneer hiker award which is given to the scouts who embody the scout spirit. to win this you must have people at camp vote for you and also have to give a speech to the board. I wrote a speech to give to the board and also gave out candy to other scouts so that they would vote for me! in the end i ended up winning the award |
Personal & Social Development
Sophomore Year Standard 2.1: The student leader sets short-term and long-term personal goals. In my position as Student Store Commissioner I have set long and short term goals that will make the student store succeed. A short term goal I have set has been to make new designs and order more sizes of old designs so that we have more stick and can sell more. Another goal has been to open the student store more often in the school year and advertise more so more people will buy from us. A long term goal is for us to redesign the student store and make it more appealing and aesthetic, with more school spirit. Standard 1.6: The student leader delegates when necessary In my Boy Scouts Troop, I hold the highest level of leadership: Senior Patrol Leader, whos job it is to basically run the troop. Doing this job is quite difficult especially with the number of other responsibilities I have so a lot of the time I delegate some of the work to my assistants and they are able to help me with my work. Junior Year Standard 1.10: Once made, the student leader supports decisions of the group. As Senior Patrol Leader of my Boy Scout troop, we host a Patrol Leaders Council Planning Campout where as a group the PLC plans the events, hikes and campouts we want to have throughout the year. While I may not agree with every event we do throughout the year, we vote as a group and the majority picks which events we do and even if I don't want to go i have to agree because thats how a democratic system works. Throughout the year when we inevitably come to these events I also must support my group and attend the event even if I don't like it because that's the decision my group made and I must respect it as the leader of my group. |
Civic & Service Learning
Sophomore Year Standard 3.2: The student leader participates in a service activity or project to serve a specific need of others In my Boy Scouts Troop we participate in many service activities for our community but the biggest one of the year is our scouting for food event where we go door to door and ask for canned food or non perishable donations for Tracy Interfaith Ministries. This has been a community service event we have done for many years and I have been apart of it for almost 10. This is an service activity we do to donate non perishable goods to people in need especially during the holidays so they can have good and hot meals. This is very important to me because I've seen first hand how this can help people. Standard 1.4: The student leader analyzes different forms of activism. This semester I became more involved in a club called Bulldog Project, which is a club that goes to middle schools and teaches them about anti bullying, against cyber bullying, hot to deal with mental health and how to say no to drugs. Being a part of this cub has helped me realize that being a part of a bigger club can help spread big messages and lets you be a part of something bigger than urself. Junior Year Standard 3.3: The student leader experiences and recognizes the benefit of serving others. When I volunteered to help at the Elks Lodge with their monthly dinner I was able to gain a different perspective in the benifits of helping others. I not only was able to help the elderly with their dinner ans was able to serve them. They gave very good advice to the people who were volunteering there. I was able to gain valuable insight helping them and was also able to help my community |

Communication
Sophomore Year
Standard 1.4: The student leader serves as a participating member of a group. This year, in my first year in leadership, I have attempted to be an actively committed member of group discussions. I think a major issue in many leadership groups is that many people's opinions are not expressed and people don't talk, which leads to their ideas not being heard and when the opinions aren't diverse many people get left behind. This year I made sure to put my opinions forward while still listening to other peoples opinions. I put I my ideas in class meetings for things like the Back to School Dance, Homecoming Ideas and Class Clothing. I used the criticism I heard from students in our grade to other members of my class which helped us fix mistakes and create new more enjoyable ideas. This also made everyone happy because more ideas were introduced. Standard 6.2: Following an activity the student leader reflects upon that activities success and areas of growth. Whenever me and my leadership class put on a event, the school day after we always go through pros and cons of the event, what went well and things that we may do better if we have this event in the future. This ensures that as a class we don't make mistakes in the future while making sure to keep the event fun. Junior Year Standard 2.3: 3. The student leader anticipates possible interview questions and rehearses potential responses. As a Boy Scout, to get to the next rank I must pass a meeting known as a Board of Review, which is a meeting with a certain council of adult boy scout leaders, parents and members of the community. My most recent Board of Review was like Board for the Rank of Life, the second highest rank in the BSA organization. To this meeting you must wear your full class A uniform and appear in front of the Board, where they ask you questions, test you about your rank and ask many questions about your goals in Scouting and in Life. I had to be dressed and appear and act in a very formal and respectful way for this meeting. We are also asked many questions based on the activities we did prior to that, and about my position in leadership n scouts which I very intensely studied and prepared for. I was very nervous going into it, but I ended up acing the interview and getting my rank! |

Technology and Digital Citizenship
Sophomore Year Standard 2.1: The student leader cultivates and manages their digital identity and reputation, and demonstrates I designed a personalized website for Leadership that highlights me, my job in leadership and my education history. This website has encouraged me to learn how to create a personalized but professional website that displays who I am and what I do and give back to my community. This project has also allowed me to become more familiar with website building and the skills needed to maintain an online website. This lets me have a higher understanding of desktop publishing and website development. I also learned how to maintain a professional website and a professional digital footprint and to maintain a high standard for myself and the program I represent Standard 1.3: The student leader grants view, comment, and/or edit access to files as needed to allow for collaboration with the student leadership team. As Rally Commissioner, I was tasked with writing the script for our Back to School rally, when we were done with the script we sent it to Mr. Chitwood to be checked and I granted him edit access so he would be able to note down and put in any changes he saw fit. I also granted ASB and my co commissioner access to be able to edit the document so that everyone had a say. Junior Year Standard 4.2: The student leader demonstrates a basic understanding of video and photography skills as they relate to their role on the student leadership team. Earlier this year at the first Football game of the season I was approached by my friend who has a side job as a photographer if I was willing to take pictures at his football game because he would be playing and unable too. I agreed because they were my teammates from last year so I didn't mind helping them. He offered to pay me for it as well so I was happy to do it. I went with the team for warmups and took pictures of the team and was allowed on the sideline to take pictures of the team. The first couple pictures were a learning curve but eventually I got the hang of it and some of the pictures turned out very well. I got really into it and it was fun capturing the emotions and events happening in front of me. I was happy to do this because my former teammates were able to have pictures to share online to spread their abilities for the possibility of getting awards and offers. This did nor directly relate to my role in the Leadership Class but I felt as if this expanded my skills and helped people around me. |
Business & Finance
Sophomore Year Standard 1.4: The student leader follows student body accounting procedures when performing bookkeeping tasks, making purchases, receiving and disbursing funds, and reimbursing vendors As Student Store Commissioner, we have to write receipts every time we sell merchandise at football games or during school. Because of this I had to learn how to write receipts accurately and correctly. This was a skill that took some time to masters because we had to be very clear and careful with how we wrote them but eventually i mastered this and now I can write correct receipts when we sell. Another accounting procedure I learned to follow is to be very careful with the cash box, and to never let only one person with the box at a time. It took some time but I learned to use proper student body accounting procedures in student store. Standard 1.5: The student leader maintains accurate and legal financial documents. As student store commissioner I am responsible for signing and making many documents for things such as inventory, selling clothes and receipts. For this reason I must stay on top of all documents I handle and be very legible and neat with said documents. Sometimes I forget about this but I try and instill this in myself regularly. Junior Year Standard 2.5:The student leader serves as both a participant and leader in various fundraising activities and employs effective sales techniques. In the Junior class we hold many fundraisers throughout the year to raise money for our class. We usually get together in the beginning of the year where we brainstorm ideas for different fundraisers. This year one of the fundraisers we held was at Menchies. Our president made a post on social media advertising this fundraiser and we all had the responsibility to share this with our friends and get people to go. We had to market and advertise this to our friends so they were more inclined to go and we all also had to attend to support our own fundraiser. At the end we did not make much money but we did our best trying to make a fundraiser that people would like and marketing to the best of our ability. |
